There are a lot of nice-sounding and nice-looking RV parks in WK1, BUT...some of them are exorbitantly expensive, some don't have room really for big rigs, and some have a few VERY negative reviews (mixed in with really great reviews). And it's the latter that kept me from booking one of the prettier spots - after our Canon City experience (last year), I don't plan on ever staying at a place that gets a "1" rating from someone. That's someone trying to warn the rest of us that something was REALLY bad! And esp. when the "1" is because of the campground owner, as was the case with the very low ratings mixed in with the high ones for the Royal View RV park (including the "1" I gave them!!). I found out the hard way that the owner can ruin your stay!!!! Some of them can have a real bad attitude, don't give a wit about "customer service," and obviously completely disagree with the "customer is always right" (or even "sometimes right") philosophy! So, this time I settled on the KOA, and we really enjoyed our stay there.
We had a great site there - maybe the best in the campground - with lots of shade and close to the dog park and "play areas" for the kitties!
Didn't get to know anyone super well - no lasting friendships from this one - but we did get to meet some nice folks here (as is usually the case). Here, a "big" brother helps his toddler sister along - a very sweet scene, repeated by this duo many times during their stay. These were just two kids in a family with 5 young kids! Seemed like a really neat family. With all the nuttiness going on in our society these days, and what seems to be a deterioration of the family unit specifically, we really appreciate when we see an obviously cohesive, happy, functional, loving family!
Much of CO is farmland/ranching and utilizes irrigation ditches, so it was no surprise to see a creek and such a ditch running through our KOA. In some of the next postings, you will see that our critters made good use of these waterways!
