Other than being on the historic Route 66, Gallup really isn't anything other than a pit stop (at least for us). But fortunately there is a good RV park there. It's not a fancy, luxurious place - RVs are crammed in sort of sardine-style on gravel strips. But the USA RV Park lives up to its name in other ways. One of which is free stays for active duty military. Pretty cool, eh? Most places do discounts for that but free stays? Not so much. But these folks put their money where their mouth is (or however that saying goes...)!
And we enjoyed being surrounded by both active duty members and veterans, and by all the patriotic symbols adorning the campground.
We also got treated to some lovely stormy weather that evening!
We tried their BBQ dinner. Good, I'm sure, if you're too tired (or your backs are too broken...) to cook, but otherwise, not that great... We also tried their cobbler dessert - Bill liked it, I'd pass next time.
Cool pool.
(and closed - probably due to the thunderstorm and lightning potential)
Billy waiting for his BBQ piggy dinner.
Fun stuff for kids.
And then - moving on the next morning. Fortunately, it's another short driving day (the whole reason for the Gallup stay!) into CO. Daddy takes the helm, and Mommy - loaded up on painkillers and anti-inflammatories - takes the couch! The animals divide up the duty too - the doggies help Dad, and the kitties (wow! Scratty stays out from behind the couch for the first time in a long while!) keep Mommy's legs warm.
No, Zou's not biting the kitties! But she might be just nibbling them a little... Nah, she's just playing with them and saying Hi! You can tell because the kitties are just laying there, not complaining or running off!
