Pyrocumulonimbus

Poor Colorado has been plagued by many things lately, one of which is beetle-killed forests, another is drought, and still another is often a direct result (plus a starter like lightning) of the other two - fire.  A couple hours away from us was a big fire complex.  We were lucky to never experience smoke where we were, but given a good vantage point, we could see the huge, billowing smoke clouds from the fire.  The clouds were interesting because they looked like thunderstorm build-up with smoke wreaths around them.  If you didn't know better you might think it was just a storm growing.

One evening, Zou and I went to one of those vantage points, and took some photos.  This one is looking the opposite direction - I liked the sunlight on the grasses and hills.

Here it is.  The sun's behind a cloud so it was mostly in shadow.

A pretty sight - Zou at sunset.

The clouds were making neat patterns that evening.

And one of my first attempts at an HDR landscape photo.

 Neat sky.

 Sunset is nigh.

 Another HDR.

And this was near the time of the "big moon" everyone was talking about...  It was still small in the sky, but I could make it big with my long lens...!
